Helicopter airfield BGS FuhlendorfBack to Projects list

The helicopter airfield of the BGS Squadron North in Fuhlendorf was completely refurbished, extended and enhanced with new buildings.
The facilty, built at the end of the sixties, was showing a large quantity of technincal und functional faults, which led to the decision of a "remould".
An important criteria in the planning of the complex was the principal "unity in variety". This was reached mainly by two means: Uniform roof shapes and uniform materials. A hanger, as well as wash hall, a repair shop, with adjacent service and workshop areas, office and central utility unit were integral part of the planning.
The office building was created by heightening and extending an enclosed flat roof. The idea of the building is simple: 2 cubic building segments are connected by a glass seam.
The entrance is in the gap with a sculpertally designed staircase.
The hangar is the only completely new building, derived exactly form the given requirements on lighting and parking space and received a uniformly bright interior by installing a transparent gate system and various roof lighting strips.
The locked-in concrete uprights support the steel construction, which are characterised by vast triangular girders in the gate vicinity and the incumbent fish-belly girders.
Special value was placed on the integration of the services into the architectural structure.
The existing workshop was complimented with a wash hall and entirely new facade and gate system, creating the impression of a uniformly designed building.
The Workshop offers service and repair facilities, meeting the high-level technical requirements of the aircraft "helicopter".
The gate systems are fitted with transparent polycarbonate plates.
